Boxing Days Picks

By | December 26, 2015

What a strange season its been. Odds were 1000/1 that Leicester would be top of the premiership at Christmas. Just as surprising is Chelsea's fall from grace. All these upsets are great for the value punter.

in the early kick-off on Boxing Day, Stoke City host an out of form Manchester United . The Potters have been inconsistent in front of their home fans in recent weeks, with impressive victories against Chelsea and Man City offset by defeats to Crystal Palace and Watford. United haven’t won in their last 6 games in all competitions though and have lost 3 consecutive matches now.

You can't really discount the draw in this game. So something on the handicap. Stoke +0.25 Asian Handicap is 1.95 whereas the draw no be is 2.25. I don't see any value in Manchester United now who are really only being backed because of their name and a belief that they have to start winning sometime.

At 3pm Leicester take on Liverpool at Anfield. Interesting fixture this as Leicester are expected to fall from grace at some point and this looks like the ideal place where this will come unstuck. Thing is, the form doesn't suggest this at all. Leicester should be favourites here I think. After the initial Klopp new manager boost, Liverpool have been quite average. Leicester have been going from strength to strength, At 4.00 its much better value than backing Liverpool at 1.95

There are some home bankers which on paper all should win but with the way the season has done, I won't be backing any of them. Chelsea, 1.50 vs Waford. Spurs, 1.44 vs Norwich and City 1.22 vs Sunderland all should win in a normal season. The treble pays 2.64 at Bet365. I can see that being popular with punters but I'd rather be backing Stoke or Leicester.

Sunderland have lost consecutive games in the Premier League and struggle on the road so they are major underdogs. Chelsea have been far from impressive, but they should put on a performance under their caretaker boss with the shackles likely to come off.

Home Win @ 1/3 (1.33)

Manchester United v Norwich City

Manchester United are desperate to get back to winning when they host Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils have bene guilty of dropping points all too readily, but should deliver this time round in their own backyard. Norwich have been inconsistent of late, and will be content to settle for less which should mean a one-sided affair for the duration.

Home Win @ 1/2 (1.50)

Newcastle United v Aston Villa

Newcastle United will be full of confidence ahead of their clash with Aston Villa, with the Magpies coming off the back of fine from in the Premier League. United have won three of their last five games in the division, and have lost only once at home since September. As for the visitors, Aston Villa haven’t won in the league since the opening day, and have been losing on a regular basis ahead of this weekend’s clash. It’s hard to see anything other than a home win given recent form.

Home Win @ 21/20 (2.05)

French Ligue One
Lorient v Nantes

Lorient are hoping to get one over Nantes in the French Ligue One, with the home side having won three and drawn two of their last six games in the division. Nantes are in poor form by comparison. The visitors have gone six games without a win in the league, and are among the lowest scorers too. As a result, Lorient are in the driving seat to pick up all three points.

Home Win @ 24/19 (2.26)

Troyes v Monaco

A one-sided affair is expected when Monaco travel to face Troyes this weekend. The visitors are flying high in the league, and are coming off the back of a great run of results. Troyes, on the other hand, are rock bottom of the table and without a win from 18 games. Monaco have won three and drawn two of their last five outings, while boasting the second best away form in the league this season. Comfortable way win on the cards here.

Away Win @ 19/20 (1.95)

SUNDAY

German Bundesliga
Borussia Monchengladbach v Darmstadt

Borussia Monchengladbach are hoping to get quickly back to winning ways in the German Bundesliga against Darmstadt. While having lost their last game, the hosts are in decent shape in recent weeks, winning five of their previous six home games in the division. And with visitors Darmstadt having lost two of their last three away games, while winning just twice in 10 matches, Monchengladbach are big favourites to pick up maximum points.

Home Win @ 8/15 (1.53)

Spanish La Liga
Real Madrid v Rayo Vallecano

Real Madrid will be desperate to put their poor form behind them and deliver a convincing win at home to relegation-threatened Rayo. Real are solid at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning three of their last four games in their own backyard, while having conceded less than a goal per game on average at home. As for the visitors, Rayo are one place above the drop zone and are winless in their last five away games. This weekend’s clash should go the way of Real as a result.

Home Win to Nil @ 23/20 (2.15)

Italian Serie A
Inter Milan v Lazio

Inter Milan will be looking to pile the misery onto Lazio in the Italian Serie A on Sunday. The visitors are in poor form ahead of their trip to face the league leaders, having gone seven games without a win. Lazio have the second worst away form in the entire division too and are likely to come unstuck against an Inter side having won three on the bounce on home soil.

Home Win @ 13/16 (1.81)

Carpi v Juventus

Juventus should have no trouble against strugglers Carpi when they travel to the Stadio Alberto Braglia this weekend. The in-form Old Lady have won their last three away games in the Serie A, while their opponents have won just twice in 16 outings. Such form will give Juventus real confidence of continuing their winning ways in the league, and Sunday’s clash should go the way of the defending champions.

Away Win @ 7/17 (1.41)

AS Roma v Genoa

Roma are hoping to get back to form at home to a struggling Genoa side. Four games without a win in the league, Roma are enduring a badly timed slump in the Serie A, but they will have confidence of turning things around with how poor their opposition have been of late. Genoa haven’t won on the road this season, and have lost three on the bounce overall ahead of Sunday’s meeting. As a result, it’s hard to see Roma drop points in this one.

SATURDAY

English Premier League
Manchester City v Swansea City

Manchester City haven’t been the most convincing in the Premier League of late, but ahead of this weekend’s clash with Swansea City, Manuel Pellegrini’s men are coming off the back of a midweek win in the Champions League. The Sky Blues have also won four in five at the Etihad, and will be confident of seeing past managerless Swansea City who are without a win in five, losing four times. This should be a home win.

Home Win @ 3/10 (1.30)

German Bundesliga
Bayern Munich v Ingolstadt

Bayern Munich will respond after having lost last week with a convincing result against Ingolstadt. The home side have dominated the Bundesliga this season, and are coming off the back of three wins from their last four overall. As for the visitors, Ingolstadt one win in six sees them in poor shape to threaten a win at the Allianz-Arena. With the away side the lowest scorers in the division this season, Bayern could well keep a clean sheet to go with an expected victory.

Home Win to Nil @ 1/2 (1.50)

Spanish La Liga
Celta Vigo v Espanyol

Celta Vigo are hoping to build up some momentum by winning against Espanyol this weekend after having been inconsistent in recent weeks. Wins have been sparse for Celta of late, but they will have confidence of seeing past an Espanyol outfit who have lost four in their previous six games. The hosts haven’t been at their best, but they could return to form on Saturday.

Home Win @ 4/7 (1.57)

Sevilla v Gijon

Sevilla have been in fine form of late, and should have no problem picking up a result against Gijon. Five consecutive wins on home soil sees Sevilla in great shape to see past a Gijon side coming off the back of three defeats on the bounce away from home. The visitors have lost four of their last six overall in the Spanish La Liga and could come unstuck to an in-form Sevilla as a result.

Home Win @ 4/11 (1.36)

SUNDAY

English Premier League
Liverpool v West Brom

Liverpool are favourites to win at home to West Bromwich Albion this weekend. The Merseysiders haven’t been the most convincing at Anfield, but have won three out of five overall in the Premier League. West Brom recently drew with Tottenham, but have only picked up one win in their last five. Liverpool will be set up to get a result against the Midlands side on home soil, and should edge a victory.

Home Win 3/7 (1.43)

Tottenham v Newcastle

Tottenham are hoping to get back to winning ways after having dropped so many points in recent weeks. Spurs have only won once in their last four, but they don’t lose often. On home soil, the Londoners have won four in their previous five, and are expected to see past a Newcastle side having suffered four defeats from five away games in the Premier League.

Home Win @ 7/17 (1.41)

French Ligue 1
Paris Saint-Germain v Olympique Lyonnais

Paris Saint-Germain have been in fantastic form in the French Ligue 1 this season, unbeaten and top of the table after 17 games. Five wins from their last six sees the Parisians as big favourites to see past a Lyon side struggling of late. The visitors are winless in their last four games, and are big underdogs to get a result.

Home Win @ 2/7 (1.29)

German Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund v Frankfurt

Borussia Dortmund are big favourites to see past Frankfurt this weekend, coming off the back of five wins from their last six games. The hosts are unbeaten in their own backyard this season, and should have no problem dispatching of a Frankfurt outfit having lost three on the bounce. The visitors have dropped points in five of their last six too, so they could well come unstuck on Sunday.

Home Win @ 2/11 (1.18)

Italian Serie A
Napoli v AS Roma

Napoli could well pick up a big win in the Serie A title race this weekend with victory over struggling AS Roma. The home side are coming off the back of three wins from the last four outings, while the visitors have dropped points in four of their previous five. Napoli have been in great shape of late, and could go top of the table with a win depending on other results.

Arsenal v Sunderland

Arsenal have been dropping points of late, but they will be desperate to get back on track at home to a Sunderland side unlikely to do little other than defend their lines for the majority. Chelsea v Bournemouth

Chelsea are slowly coming back into form ahead of this weekend’s clash with the out-of-form Bournemouth, and the Blues are big favourites to come out on top as a result. Home Win @ 4/11 (1.36)

Manchester United v West Ham United

Manchester United need a result at home to West Ham this weekend to ensure they don’t lose ground in the title race. The Red Devils have been hard to beat at Old Trafford, winning four and drawing two of six home games, and are favorites to see past a Hammers side without a win in four overall. The hosts should pile the misery onto the Londoners on Saturday as a result.

Home Win @ 1/2 (1.50)

Southampton v Aston Villa

Southampton are sure to respond following a disappointing couple of weeks, and relegation-threatened Aston Villa could pay the price. The Saints have suffered defeats in recent weeks, but are normally hard to beat on home soil. Aston Villa have gone 13 games without a win, and can’t seem to pick up any points at home or away. Many have them tipped for the drop, and as a result Southampton are big favourites to win.

Home Win @ 1/2 (1.50)

Spanish La Liga
Real Madrid v Getafe

Real Madird recently returned to winning ways in the league, and are hoping to continue such form against Getafe this weekend. Los Blancos are notoriously strong in their own backyard, and looked to have improved their defensive record. With visitors Getafe without a win on the road this season, Real should enjoy a comfortable win potentially with a clean sheet for their troubles.

Home Win to Nil @ 37/40 (1.93)

Italian Serie A
Inter Milan v Genoa

Inter Milan are looking to bounce back against Genoa this weekend, with Robert Mancini’s side desperate to put pressure on the sides above them in the title race. The Nerazzurri are strong on home soil while their opponents are without a win on their travels. As a result, an Inter side boasting five wins from seven at the San Siro should come out on top.

Home Win @ 13/20 (1.65)

SUNDAY

English Premier League
Newcastle United v Liverpool

Liverpool travel to face an out-of-form Newcastle side this weekend, and are expected to continue winning ways at St James’ Park. The Merseysiders have recently beaten the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and most recently Southampton (Capital One Cup) away from home, and should no problems seeing past a Newcastle side having dropped points in six of their seven home games this season.

Away Win @ 8/13 (1.62)

Spanish La Liga
Athletic Bilbao v Malaga

Athletic Bilbao are in fine form ahead of Sunday’s clash with Malaga, and are big favourites to pick up all three points. Bilbao have won ofur of their last five games in the Spanish La Liga, while visitors Malaga have yet to win away from home. The contrast in form should see the home side comfortable come out on top, so Malaga are likely to come unstuck to Bilbao.

Home Win @ 8/15 (1.53)

Villarreal v Rayo Vallecano

Villarreal are in great shape to get a result against strugglers Rayo Vallecano, with the home side coming off the back of four wins in six in their own backyard. Rayo have lost three and drawn one of their last four away games, so could well come unstuck when the two sides lock horns this weekend.

Home Win @ 8/13 (1.62)

Italian Serie A
Bologna v Napoli

Napoli are coming off the back of incredible form ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Bologna, with the visitors boasting five wins from their last six. Away Win @ 10/21 (1.48)
